Rebel Sworn: Chapter 1, Imperial Report - A Star Wars Inspired Starforged Solo Campaign

Welcome to Rebel Sworn, a Starforged: Ironwsworn solo RPG adventure inspired by the world of Star Wars.

This is exciting, as I love Starforged and Star Wars. I’m pulling setting, plot details and enemy information from The Age of Rebellion book from Fantasy Flight Games, a fantastic RPG in its own right. Let’s get straight into it!

This campaign will be a bit longer than the other two I did. I don’t yet know how long, but I’m hoping to do at least two story threads and maybe have that lead to a larger confrontation at the end. We can say this will go at least 10 posts, where Agon was 4 and The One Ring was 6 posts long.

The theme and tone of the campaign will be gritty and dark, but also hopeful. I’m shooting for a similar feeling as Rogue One.

A fantastic book and game. Thanks Shawn for making it! Credit to Shawn Tomkin

Game Tools

  • Starforged: Ironsworn - Well you’ve heard me talking about this game several times, now you get to see me play it! Shawn Tomkin's game is a masterpiece and I'm glad to be playing it again.
  • Age of Rebellion RPG - A fantastic RPG and I highly recommend it. Fantasy Flight Games produced a whole slew of Star Wars RPGs but you may have trouble finding them as they’ve gone out of print and PDFs aren’t available. There is a reprint coming later this year hopefully.
  • Stargazer Journal - A great tool for doing all your Starforged play in one place. I highly recommend it. There is also an Ironsworn version.
  • Miscellaneous Tables and tools - I’ll also be using a variety of generators, Wookiepedia articles and even a few customised tables. I’ll pop them all on the blog for you to take a look at.
  • Art - I'm going to attempt to create all my own AI generated art for this campaign and I'm doing that for a few reasons. AI art generation is fun and interesting to me, but can be fickle and challenging at times to get what you want. And in the past I've had trouble finding Sci-fi art. I may fall back to using Unsplash or Pixaby for royalty free art. We will see!

Setting

Rebel Sworn will be set in the Age of Rebellion after the first Death Star was defeated at the Battle of Yavin but before the Death Star 2 and the Battle of Endor. This will include a more or less open war against the Empire by the Rebels and some cloak and dagger work on more secured Imperial systems. Again, it will feel like Rogue One, with espionage and assassinations, and it will lead to some full-blown battles.

Rules Adjustment

While Starforged: Ironsworn will work well in this setting with little adjustments, I’ll make a few changes to the game at the start to make it fit the Star Wars universe.

The starting process of developing the galaxy and creating truths will not happen. We will pull the ‘geography’ of the galaxy from Star Wars lore http://www.swgalaxymap.com/ and all the truths will be taken from Star Wars.

Vows will be used as a narrative function of the game but will show up differently in the story as Iron isn’t as important in the Star Wars universe. Perhaps it will be something different, we will see.

Faster than light rules may be different, and space travel is also. I’ll bring it more in line with what we see in Star Wars.

The three core pillars of Starforged, Quests, Bonds, and Discoveries, will be generally the same with a slight change to Discoveries. While there is a ton of exploration a character could do in Star Wars, the character I’m playing will be a soldier, a spy or a saboteur. So they won’t be out discovering Jedi temples or deserted worlds in this campaign. Instead, they will be making discoveries about the empire and its plans. Mechanically it will work similarly.

Ok time to do some character creation! Character creation will be done as a report from the Imperial Security Bureau, should be interesting.

Imperial Security Bureau Report

Date: Imperial Year 20, 3rd Month, 10th day.

Roll a D12 on the Mid-Rim planet table, a 7. Boz Pity. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Boz_Pity/Legends

Location: Boz Pity Imperial Security Outpost #12

Roll a D12 on the Common species table. A 6, Trandoshan. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Trandoshan

Subject: Trandoshan Male, Adult (date of birth unknown). Name is Sskeer, or Keer for short.

Keer is a radical rebel supporter who will stop at nothing to destroy the law and order we have created in the empire. Keer is extremely experienced and dangerous with explosives and has been known to use them to destroy Imperial equipment and personnel.

Paths Taken: Bannersworn and Demolitionist.

Keer has a significant history with the Empire and the Galatic Republic before it. An explosives expert with several Separatists armies, after the founding of the Galatic Empire Keer turned to criminality and terrorism. After the terrorist attack on the Death Star, Keer has seemed to join up with a rebel cell operating out of the desolate world of Boz Pity.

Boz Pity is desolate planet full of canyons and massive funeral pillars from a long dead civilisation. Credit to me using MidJourney.

Keer claims Imperial forces attacked a ship carrying his family, but these reports were never verified and are considered rebel propaganda.

Background Vow: Taking Revenge on the empire for killing his family.

Keer is known is travel aboard the Obsidian Wrath, a heavily modified cargo transport of indeterminate origin. Roll on Starship background table, a 94. Intelligence states that Keer won the ship betting on Sabacc with other outlaws several years ago. Roll on starship descriptor table, a 29. Imperial officers who have seen the ship report it is in poor condition and rattles uncontrollably when entering or exiting atmosphere.

Asset Taken: Utility drone

Keer is also known to have a reprogrammed Imperial Astromech droid with the designation R5-J2. The droid is known to assist Keer with repairs, hacking, and other criminal activity.

Stats: Edge:1 Heart:1 Iron:2 Shadow:2 Wits: 3

Keer is known to be clever and devious, and will often observe an Imperial target for days before creating the perfect plan to terrorize it. He often lurks in the shadows and is dangerous in close quarters due to his natural strength. Reports suggest his marksmanship is average at best, so engage at a distance if possible.

Further Information: Keer often wears burnt clothing from his experiments with explosives, he is missing a finger on his left hand from an old Clone Wars battle. He carries several thermal detonators on himself and a standard blaster. He favours his fists for hand-to-hand combat. His rebel callsign has been discovered as Nova.

BE ADVISED: Keer is armed and dangerous. Do not approach him alone, contact your local Imperial Security Bureau office if you identify him. Any suspicious explosions should immediately be reported to the local ISB office.

Keer’s has been last reported travelling through isolated outposts of Boz Pity, attempting to convince the sparse local population into rebellion against the empire. ISB has ordered increased orbital and surface patrols.

Report filed by ISB Senior Agent Cen Haren

  2. Very interesting. You mentioned a roll on a mid rim planet table and a common species table. May I ask where the tables are? Are they from age of rebellion?
