Rebel Sworn: Chapter 3, Part 1, A City Garrisoned- A Star Wars Inspired Starforged Solo Campaign

The spark now ignited, Keer flies to a city he knows well. But when he lands, will he find friends or foes?

Welcome to the start of Chapter 3. In the last chapter, Keer successfully escaped the Imperial base with the data he was searching for and discovered the empire was attempting to repair an old Separatist dreadnaught. He left the outpost a smoking ruin. Now that he has the secret of the Dreadnaught, he heads to Boz Pity to find an old friend.

If this is the first chapter of Rebel Sworn you've read, be sure to check out the chapter list for the campaign.

Now let us jump into the story with a Begin Session. Enjoy!

Begin a Session

An influential character or faction is introduced or given new detail +1 Momentum (Max at 10)

ISB Senior Agent Cen Haren walks among the burnt-out husk of the outpost, with a look of concentration and concern on his face. 'How could these Imperials Troopers be so careless?' he thinks. Clearly, the exploding speeder was a decoy, yet the Storm Trooper squad took the bait like a starving womp rat. And the Imperial Army Troopers? Their performance was pathetic, letting one Rebel operative storm the base with no support. If the Commanding Officer wasn’t dead, he’d probably shoot him on the spot.

Not to mention the lost ordinance that they were storing at this outpost. It will be a severe loss for the plans for the sector. That Separatist ammunition could have blown any Rebel ship out of the sky. Well, no point crying about split spotchka.

An ISB technician approaches and salutes Agent Haren.

“Sir, we’ve accessed the files they hacked into. Looks like the rebel accessed data about a crashed Separatist ship on Boz Pity.” Agent Haren smiles for the first time today, now he knows where that rebel scum is going.

The Story Continues…

I let R5 pilot the Obsidian into Boz City. City, well that is a generous term for this disgusting, crime-ridden hole. I would feel more at home blasting holes through an asteroid than walking the streets of Boz City, and I’d probably be safer too. It’s built deep into one of the canyons that cross Boz Pity. Hopefully, a flash flood will wipe it off the map one day.

Boz City, an awful place to visit. Made by me using Disco Diffusion

Well, I need answers and this is where I can get them. The Gundark has to go where the meat is, as they say.

The Obsidian Wrath shakes a bit too much as she flies into the city. I need to spend some credits on tightening a few bolts down, otherwise, something is going to come off mid-flight. The old girl will hold together, at least for the moment. R5 pilots us into a landing pad, operated by one of the smuggler crime syndicates. This bunch is rough, but they aren’t as bad as the Pykes. Pay your fee and they don’t ask questions. Give them their 10% on any job and they will treat you like their own. Simple folk.

We set down and I get myself ready. Blaster, credits in my pocket, and a few ‘small’ detonators in my pack. A Trandoshan is always prepared. I step out and I’m met by a Gamorrean with a particularly cruel axe. It starts squealing in its distinctive language. R5 provides a text transcription to me.

“You pay now. 500 credits or your ship will be confiscated” the text reads.

I shout back “500 credits! That is five times the normal rate. What kind of hyperspace robbery are you doing here? I’ll pay the normal rate and don’t you ever threaten to take my ship Gamorrean!”

Compel with +2 Iron

Challenge, 7,7 Vs 6+2=8. Wow! Another match with a Strong Hit.

+1 momentum, at max still.

Ok, for this I will unveil an ally and introduce a danger. Why not? Let’s have some fun.

A voice echoes from the shadows “Alright, let him land and deduct the standard fee. Sorry old buddy, but things are changing around here. The empire has garrisoned the city with a battalion of Mud Troopers and rumors are a company of Storm Troopers are on its way. It’s bad for business you know? Anyway, it’s great to see you old friend!”

A human steps out from the shadows. I never understood human emotion and facial expressions but this one is baring her teeth in what I’ve been told is a ‘smile’. She approaches with open arms attempting to ‘hug’ me.

“Verse Typho, you scoundrel," I say. "What are you doing babysitting these docks? Thanks for your help with the muscle, this one doesn’t seem particularly intelligent.”

Verse laughs a deep laugh and says “Yes, well intelligence is sometimes overrated. We are a bit jumpy now due to the Empire’s presence. I have no idea what they want with this karkhole but here they are. What brings you to civilization? Looking for work? We could always use someone with your particular skills.”

Alright, let’s do some world-building. Who is Verse Typho and who does she work for? Let’s start with Verse.

Verse Typho. Smuggler, criminal, badass. Made by me using Nightcafe.

For Verse, I’d love to be random but I think we have an idea of who she is already. Random tables are good but sometimes if you already have a good idea in your head, go with it. Still, we can pick from the table.

The first look is Scruffy, Initial disposition will be Curious. Her role is a smuggler agent.

Now for her faction. It is a criminal faction on Boz Pity, that we already know, but who are they? I won’t go through the creation process here as it would take up most of a post! But you can see their information below. The Union of Wandering Credit or The Union for short is who Verse works for.

I say, “No Verse, you know I’m not doing jobs anymore. But I need your help finding an old friend of mine. Will you help out?”

Make a Connection +1 with Heart

Challenge 5,6 vs Action 6+1=7 Strong hit! The dice are with me today.

Verse with have a Dangerous rating and can help with things related to crime or smuggling.

Verse smiles at me again and says “For you Keer, of course. This is my town and if you need to find someone I can help you out. Truth be told business has slowed down a lot with these Imps stomping over the place. So anything to keep me and the men occupied is good. I’ve been spending my days keeping the guys from fighting the Imps. So who are you looking for and why?”

Well, this is looking to be easier than I thought! “I’m looking for Zhar'seca. Have you seen them around? I need help with a job. No not that kind of job. A job for the cause. Do you know where they are?”

Verse considers this for a moment, “Zhar? That crazy Twi’lek who’s always shooting their mouth off at the cantina? Yeah, I know where they are, but you're not going to like the answer.”

Where is Zhar? Let’s roll to find out. Going with Theme and Descriptor. Rival Inaccessible. Oh yes, I know where this is going.

“Zhar got caught running their mouth a few too many times. The Pyke Syndicate isn’t too interested in Boz City but they do have a few agents here, mostly to contract for smugglers. Well, your friend decides to run their mouth to a few Pykes, and well, they beat the kark out of them and took them to their compound. Now, taking on the Pykes is a bit over my paygrade. I can point you to where they are but I can’t lift a finger against them. Sorry old friend.”

Well, I guess it's not all good news after all. “Well Verse, lay it on me. What's the best way to bust Zhar out of this Pyke hole?’’

Gather Information +3 with Wits

Challenge 1,5 Vs Action 2+3=5, Weak hit, +1 Momentum (max)

I’ll roll on the Action Theme and get Lose Dream. A hard oracle there. I’ll say I’ll need to attack a shipment of their narcotic spice. (Lose = steal and dream = drugs? I don’t know, what do you think about it?)

Verse pulls up a stool and sits down. “You won’t like this. But the best way to find out where they are keeping Zhar is to high-jack one of their spice shipments and figure out where it was going. I don’t need to tell you how stupid, stupid, incredibly stupid that is. No Rebel commando unit can save you from the Pykes if you steal from them. They’ll kill you, they’ll kill your friends, anyone who knows you, your family, do you even have a family?’’

“Not anymore” I mumble.

“Well, they’ll invent a family for you and kill them. They don’t mess around. Are you sure you want to do this?”

“I need Zhar. I can’t do this without her. So give me the information and forget you saw me today.’’

Swear a Vow +1 with Heart

Challenge 9,7 Vs Action 3+1=4. Burn Momentum (back to 2 Momentum). Action Score is now 10. Strong hit! +2 Momentum, now 4.

The vow is to break Zhar out of the Pike captivity.

“Alright, Keer. Their shipment comes through the same spot every week.” She looks from side to side and speaks quietly.

Roll for location on Theme Descriptor got Commerce Perilous. Easy one.

“They bring it straight through the slums built into the rock wall. They know no one is stupid enough to touch it. If you really want to swipe it, you’ll go there and wait. It won’t be long. And hey Keer, forget I told you this, please.’’

I smile at Verse, “No problem, I don’t even know who you are.” I grab my pack and run off to the slums of Boz City.

Well, Keer is off to take on the Pykes. I don't know if that is a good move for the long term or the short term. Check in next time to see how Keer goes in his heist of the Pyke shipment.

And always, thanks for reading.
